Renishaw, a British engineering company, has won a contract to supply Fanbeam 5 laser dynamic positioning (DP) reference systems to Bourbon vessels around the world.

The company said that after a successful trial of Fanbeam 5 system on one of Bourbon’s Liberty series vessels in West Africa, Bourbon decided to use Renishaw’s Fanbeam 5 for both existing vessel dynamic positioning upgrades and new-build vessels entering its fleet over the term of the agreement.

John Howells , UK/ROW Sales Manager for Renishaw’s Spatial Measurement Division, said: “It signifies an important step in Renishaw’s growth into the offshore marine industry. While Fanbeam 5’s technical performance, reliability and cost effectiveness are critical to its success in the market; this agreement also recognises Renishaw’s investment in its global service network and the security that comes from dealing with a FTSE 250 organisation.”

Bourbon operates a global fleet of over 500 offshore support vessels for the oil and gas industry.
