GEV Wind Power is set to unveil its new cloud-based App, the GEV Intuitive Reporting and Inspection System (I-RIS), which is mounted on a technician’s iPad, enables near real-time reporting to be collected, and document a turbine’s maintenance activity.

GEV Wind Power is showcasing its I-RIS App and unveiling the full size model at this month’s Global Offshore Wind (Stand No. 102).

“At GEV we strive to continually bring innovation to the industry and believe that both I-RIS and our habitat structure have key roles to play in ultimately driving down the cost of offshore wind power,” said GEV Wind Power’s projects director, Alastair Gadney .

The App also facilitates timely project management, and offers considerable cost benefits to those involved across the entire wind energy sector, GEV said.

Gadney said: “The fundamental advantage of I-RIS is that it provides near real-time reporting on each maintenance task, thereby improving data collection and efficiency. Set to drastically reduce waste and improve the end-to-end repair process, I-RIS prompts technicians to take blade condition images whilst undertaking their maintenance tasks. The project manager is then able to share these with clients virtually simultaneously.”

Reports within I-RIS can be customised to match individual client requirements and future development of the App will enable clients to view the “live” maintenance condition of every asset allocated to GEV Wind Power.

Gadney continued: “I-RIS offers a first in terms of establishing and maintaining robust blade records throughout the in-service life of a blade. Given emergent problems, such as blade leading edge erosion, the ability to maintain a robust log on blade condition is a huge advantage for any asset owner.”
