On 25 June, the Coral Anthelia berthed at Gate terminal in the port of Rotterdam marking the 100th time an LNG carrier called at the Dutch first terminal.
The number of ships calling at Gate has been increasing steadily since the start-up in 2011 (8 in 2011, 10 in 2012, 23 in 2013 and 34 in 2014). So far 25 ships called at the terminal this year, Gate said in a statement issued on Thursday.
The arrival of the Coral Anthelia for a small scale LNG load operation highlights the extended functionality of Gate, the statement said.
Conceived for unloads of large LNG carriers (up to Q-max) the terminal can now deal with all sizes of LNG vessels, perform (simultaneous) loads and soon transshipments. These developments underpin the increased use of the terminal, Gate said.
Year to date Gate’s customers used the terminal for 11 unloads (with LNG arriving from Qatar, Norway and Algeria), 5 large loads (to Argentina and Dubai) and 9 small loads (to Sweden and Norway).
“Together with the increased use of the truck loading facility these are encouraging steps in the ambition to become an important LNG hub for North West Europe,” it added.
