Renewables’ share of electricity generation increased from 19.6 per cent in 2014 Q1 to a record level of 22.3 per cent in the same period this year.
Offshore wind increased generation by 6.3 per cent to 4.7 TWh while onshore wind was up by 4.7 per cent in totalling at 7.0 TWh, according to the statistics from the Department of Energy & Climate Change.
The positive figures come as a result of an increased capacity both in onshore (0.9GW) and offshore (1.0GW).
Offshore wind was in a third place when looking at a total share of renewable energy generation, behind onshore wind and photovoltaics.
Renewable electricity generation was a record 21.1 TWh in the first quarter of 2015, an increase of 15 per cent on the same period a year earlier.
