Freeport LNG seeking increased production capacity authorization

Freeport LNG filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeking approval of an increase of the projects’s authorized maximum peak day LNG production capacity from the approximately 1.8 Bcf/d to approximately 2.14 Bcf/d.

Freeport LNG filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeking approval of an increase of the projects’s authorized maximum peak day LNG production capacity from the approximately 1.8 Bcf/d to approximately 2.14 Bcf/d.

Freeport LNG wrote in its filing that the requested amendment is the estimated maximum LNG production capacity of the liquefaction project available for export under optimal operating conditions.

The nameplate liquefaction capacity for project in the initial application of approximately 657 Bcf/y of natural gas, which is the equivalent of approximately 13.2 mtpa of LNG, is the nameplate capacity determined by Freeport LNG and its engineering, procurement, and construction contractor during the early stages of front-end engineering design of the liquefaction project, using very conservative design and operating assumptions.

Freeport LNG adds that this reflects a very conservative estimate of the nominal production capacity of the liquefaction trains, rather than the maximum quantity of LNG that could be produced in a particular year under well-developed engineering design parameters and specific operating conditions.

The design progression, more precise information together with other engineering refinements resulted in higher LNG production which is now estimated at approximately 782 Bcf/y.

Freeport LNG requested that the commission grant this authorization by July 31, 2015.
