Kvaerner signed the contract for delivery of steel jacket substructure for the riser platform at the Johan Sverdrup field located in the North Sea, offshore Norway, in January 2015.
As reported yesterday, Kvaerner kicked off the construction of steel jacket substructure by lighting the flame in the cutting machine at Kværner Verdal marking the official start-up of the Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup project.
The machine operator Stian Myrvold Green in Kvaerner was the one who lit the cutting flame and the first steel for the jacket was cut. The steel plate which was cut, is part of a launch runner for the RP jacket.
According to Kvaerner, the assembly begins in the first quarter of 2016. The steel jacket will weigh 26 500 tonnes, making it the biggest steel jacket in Europe.
It will be transported and installed on the Johan Sverdrup field in 2017.
The Johan Sverdrup partnership consists of Statoil, Lundin Norway, Petoro, Det norske oljeselskap and Maersk Oil. Statoil will be operator for all the field’s phases.
