Atlantic to Dredge Cape Fear River

The bucket dredger Atlantic, owned by Norfolk Dredging Company, will begin dredging operations at the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) on the Cape Fear River on or around 10 July, 2015.

Dredging works, located adjacent to Reaves Point Channel Range, are expected to continue until 30 November, 2015.

The dredger will be loading Mud Scows and towing them to the Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS) located 3.5 miles south of Cape Fear River Entrance Channel Lighted Buoy 2 (LLNR 30318).

The dredging operations will take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

While the actual dredging may be not affect the waterway traffic, the barge disposal shipments and the waterway traffic will share 5 miles of water until the waterway turns westward at mile 309 below Southport.
