Iran has revealed plans to invest big in the development of its bunkering infrastructure in the Persian Gulf.

As informed by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), the plans, announced by the PMO Managing Director Mohammad Saeednejad, envisage investment worth USD 500 million, which is earmarked for establishing of bunkering infrastructure.

As for providing water and fuel to the passing ships in the Persian Gulf, Saeednejad explained that since ensuring the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the waters under its jurisdiction would only be realized with the effective implementation and enforcement of international requirements, a national will would be necessary for promoting the maritime services provided by the country.

To that end, he referred to the efforts of PMO on participation in preparing and approving international maritime regulations and conventions, and stated that the interaction of the Iranian maritime administration with other regional states in this field was an” inevitable necessity”.

The PMO’s Managing Director stressed that piping operations were under way at the moment, adding that Iran would acquire a good share of the bunkering activities conducted in the Persian Gulf in a not too distant future.
