Beaufort Building which will house a number of marine energy researchers and offices will be opened on July 11, 2015.

The construction of the Building was enabled by €15.2 million investment provided by the Irish government and private investors.

The Building covers some 4700 m2 across five floors, and has provision for 135 researchers and support staff in offices and across a suite of test tanks and dedicated workshops.

University College Cork’s (UCC) Beaufort Building is located in Ringaskiddy, Ireland.

Beaufort Building will house the LIR National Ocean Test Facility, and will also be MaREI’s new headquarters, MaREI’s press release reads.

It is located adjacent to the National Maritime College of Ireland, and represents a major extension of the University’s Environmental Research Institute (ERI) and will be UCC’s flagship presence on the IMERC Campus.

The facilities comprise a 2.600 m2 tank-hall which will house four different wave tanks and a suite of electrical test infrastructure, alongside scientists and engineers engaged in cross-disciplinary research covering a range of fields such as marine renewable energy, marine and coastal, and sustainable energy research.

The MaREI Centre is a cluster of key university and industrial partners dedicated to solving the main scientific, technological and socio-economic challenges related to marine renewable energy.
