A tender to select consultant who will conduct studies and design for the third phase of the Port of Salalah expansion project has been released by the Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications.

According to the Ministry, the selected consultant will conduct a study on the third phase expansion and will design the expansion program.

The tender documents will be distributed before August 6, with the opening of bids set for August 31.

In its recent 20-year master plan (2011-30), the Port of Salalah envisions the establishment of the Salalah hub that includes a railway connection and distribution center, food reserve and processing centers among warehousing and other logistics facilities, dedicated terminals for cruise tourism and liquid storage along with dedicated facilities.

This would position Salalah to become the entry-point for the region, saving time, money and in some cases, CO2 emissions.
