ExxonMobil PNG, operator of the US$19 billion PNG LNG project, said it has commenced delivery of up to 25MW of electricity from the LNG plant to PNG Power.

The company will supply electricity to PNG Power for local use under a memorandum of understanding signed in January this year.

According to ExxonMobil PNG’s Managing Director, Andrew Barry , the project was fast-tracked in order to deliver electricity from gas turbine generators inside the liquefaction plant, to the people of PNG in time for the start of the Pacific Games.

“ A team of 80 people completed around 100,000 hours of work to deliver the project ,” Barry added.

Beside ExxonMobil PNG, which is a fully-owned unit of ExxonMobil, other co-venturers in the LNG project include Oil Search, Santos, National Petroleum Company of PNG, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration, Mineral Resources Development Company and Petromin PNG Holdings Limited.
