Tallink Grupp has received €4.8 million support from EU to be allocated in the new LNG-powered vessel, which will be serving the Helsinki-Tallinn line starting from 2017.
The funds have been awarded within the 2014 CEF Transport Multi-Annual Calls for proposals for financing of infrastructure investments in the Port of Helsinki and the Port of Tallinn that will total €97.6 million, according to a statement by Port of Tallinn.
Within the same grant totaling €29.3 million, the Port of Helsinki will receive EUR 19.2 million to develop traffic and port facilities related to Helsinki-Tallinn line traffic, while the Port of Tallinn will receive €5.3 million support to develop several activities in the Old City Harbour.
Tallink Grupp recently signed a deal with the Nordea Bank Finland for a loan in the amount of €184 million to finance the construction of its LNG-powered ferry being constructed in Meyer Turku shipyard.
The dual fuel ship, that will be about 212 metres in length with a passenger capacity of 2800, is scheduled for delivery at the beginning of 2017. The total investment into the vessel amounts to €230 million.
