Last week, Danish wind turbines hit a new record by producing enough electricity to cover not only Danish needs but to supply three more countries with wind power.
Thanks to strong winds blowing from Thursday night to Friday morning, wind farms in Denmark produced 140% of the country’s electricity demand, with surplus power exported to Norway, Sweden and Germany.
Carsten Vittrup, an energy strategy adviser, told Danish media that there are two main factors for achieving the biggest wind share. Namely, along with the powerful wind that allowed for a major wind energy generation, Danish power consumption is much lower during summer, which all together contributed to excess power being shared with the three aforementioned countries.
