The 147,980 cbm LNG tanker Arctic Princess, which departed from Norway’s Hammerfest terminal on Tuesday, is about to deliver a shipment of the chilled gas to Lithuania.
The Statoil-chartered carrier is expected to dock at the FSRU Independence, located in the Port of Klaipeda on July 19, port data shows.
The FSRU, owned by Höegh LNG, started serving as Lithuania’s first import terminal last year in order to reduce the country’s dependence on Russian gas supplies.
Statoil has last year signed a mid-term contract with Lithuania’s state-owned gas trader Litgas to supply about 6-7 LNG cargoes per annum (0.5 billion cubic meters) to the FSRU in Port of Klaipeda
The two companies have also recently signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint venture in Lithuania to develop small scale LNG bunkering services.
According to the deal, the JV would supply LNG as a fuel to ships, small terminals in the Baltic Sea, and transport LNG by trucks to onshore customers.
