LNG terminal on the island of Krk has been declared a strategic investment project by the Croatian government.
LNG Croatia, the company in charge of building and operating the project, expects to start constructing the €600-million plant in mid-2016 and complete works within three years.
The government informed in a statement that this decision will expedite the preparation procedures for the implementation of the project.
Croatian government sees the Croatian LNG terminal as an import project for the country’s energy security as well as for diversifying European supply sources.
Croatia annually consumes around 2.7 bcm of natural gas while the planned LNG terminal would have a capacity between 4 and 6 bcm.
