Following more than two years of consultation, and an ongoing feasibility study, Aberdeen Harbor has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PoAN) to Aberdeen City Council – the first stage of the formal planning application for a potential expansion of the current harbor into Nigg Bay.

In order to facilitate and respond to the growing number, and size of vessels wishing to use the Port, Aberdeen Harbor has been investigating the feasibility of constructing a second harbor at Nigg Bay, to the south of the current port.

The benefits of this development would be considerable, providing an additional 1,500 meters of quay, a minimum draft of nine meters, a wide entrance and turning circle, and a laydown area of more than 125,000 square meters. It would also have heavy lift capabilities, fully serviced berths, and the capability to accommodate larger vessels.

The Proposal of Application Notice (PoAN) precedes the formal application, which will be made in early August. A final decision to proceed with the development will be subject to the outcomes of the ongoing feasibility study.
