British oil giant BP has reportedly suspended production from the Shah Deniz offshore field in the Caspian Sea.
According to the Azeri news agency Trend, the oil and gas company which operates the giant gas-condensate field together with several other oil companies, stopped production at the Shah Deniz offshore platform for inspections and maintenance on Sunday, August 2.
Citing a message from BP, Trend further reported that this was a scheduled maintenance expected to take 20 days to complete.

The Shah Deniz field was discovered in 1999. It is one of the world’s largest gas-condensate fields, with 40 trillion cubic feet – over 1 trillion cubic meters – of gas in place. It is located on the deep water shelf of the Caspian Sea, 70 km southeast of Baku, in water depths ranging from 50 to 500 m.
