Punj Lloyd of India said it has secured a Rs. 477 crore (USD 75 million) order from Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the Ennore LNG project.
The scope of work includes geotechnical investigation and early earth works as part of the construction of two 180,000 cbm tanks for Indian Oil Corporation’s LNG import project at Ennore port in Tamil Nadu, Punj Lloyd said in a statement.
MHI has recently received an EPC order from Indian Oil to construct two storage tanks for the first LNG receiving terminal to be constructed on India’s east coast. The tanks are expected to be complete in the spring of 2018.
LNG imported to the terminal will be supplied as feedstock to fertilizer plants, and to utility company power generation plants for use as an alternative fuel.
Plans also call for the use of LNG as city gas in urban areas in the future. The terminal will initially have the capacity to handle five million metric tonnes per annum, expanding to 15 MMTPA in the future.
