Sabella, a French tidal energy developer, has delayed the connection of its D10 tidal turbine with Ushant island, France.
As reported earlier, Sabella planned to connect the 1 MW tidal turbine with the Ushant island during the neap tide, between July 24 and 27, but the company stated it was unsuccessful in its efforts.
The company said the arrival of the equipment necessary to make the connection was delayed due to farmers’ strikes in France who blocked the roads on several locations across France.
In addition to the delay in the equipment arrival, the weather conditions proved to be unsuitable to make the connection.
Jean-Christophe Allo , Project Manager at Sabella, said: “We just had time to put everything in order for the operation, and to test all the connectors, but without any possibilities to connect them. We hope the weather forecast will be better end of August to retry it.”
To remind, Sabella installed its D10 tidal turbine in the Fromveur Passage, off Ushant island, on June 25, 2015.
The electricity produced from the turbine will cover 15-20% of the Ushant island’s electricity consumption needs, and Sabella plans to keep it submerged for one year to conduct trials, without adding more turbines.
