Chevron’s US$29 billion Wheatstone liquefied natural gas project in Australia is more than 65 percent complete.
The LNG Train 1 cold boxes have been delivered to the site located at Ashburton North, 12 kilometers west of Onslow in Western Australia, Chevron said in its latest update of the giant LNG project.
They will play a central role in the gas liquefaction process, cooling the gas to -320°F (-160°C).
The slug catcher header and piping systems have also been installed, which will separate condensate from gas at the inlet of the plant before further gas processing.
At the Materials Offloading Facility, the breakwater is complete and the loading platform has been installed on the 1.2 kilometre (0.75 mile) product loading jetty, Chevron said.
At the offshore gas processing platform, 225 kilometres from Ashburton North, a 440-person accommodation vessel has been connected to the platform to support hookup and commissioning activities now under way.
Installation of subsea manifolds is complete and subsea equipment and flow lines are now being installed on the Wheatstone and Iago gas fields, Chevron added.
The Wheatstone project will consist of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million metric tons per annum and a domestic gas plant.
It is a joint venture between Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (64.14 percent), KUFPEC (13.4 percent), Woodside (13 percent), and Kyushu Electric (1.46 percent), together with PE Wheatstone, part owned by TEPCO (8 percent).
