The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission informed it has prepared a final environmental impact statement for the Lake Charles liquefaction project proposed by Trunkline Gas Company, a unit of Energy Transfer.
According to FERC’s filing, the construction and operation of the project would result in adverse environmental impacts, but most impacts would be reduced to less-than-significant levels.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Department of Transportation participated as cooperating agencies in the preparation of the final EIS.
The proposed project facilities include the construction of three liquefaction trains, each with a production capacity sufficient to produce 5.48 million metric tons per annum of LNG for export, modifications and upgrades at the existing Trunkline LNG terminal located in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.
FERC added that following review, it concluded that the construction and operation of the proposed liquefaction facility would not result in increased LNG vessel traffic.
LNG player, BG Group has booked the total production capacity of the facility and is responsible for the offtake. Under the long-term deal with Energy Transfer, BG Group will operate the proposed facility.
