NEMOS, a German wave energy developer, has started the fully automatized operation of their scaled wave energy system in Denmark.

The fully automatized 1:5 scaled NEMOS wave energy device is operating at Nissum Bredning test site in Denmark.

It is equipped with optimized hardware and advanced operations software, and is already feeding electricity into the Danish grid, according to the statement issued by NEMOS.

NEMOS wave energy system consists of an elongated floating body which is connected to the seabed by three ropes.

The movement of the waves causes the device to transmit mechanical energy to a generator which is positioned at any suitable offshore structure.

As announced earlier, the 1:5 scaled NEMOS device underwent hydromechanical parameter studies at ECN wave tank in Nantes, in December 2014.

The company then stated that the results of more than 200 performed tests would be integrated in the automatization of the system during the upcoming field tests.
