The Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) has announced the beginning of marine operations related to anchor trials and anchor installations in West Bay and FORCE demonstration area in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.
The announced operations will take place from August 19-26, 2015.
In a notice issued by FORCE, it is stated that a temporary anchor and associated chain will remain on the seabed for the duration of the operations, but without surface buoy for the anchor.
The vessels will be restricted in ability to maneuver status during these operations, so other vessels will be required to keep a safe distance of 500 m.
The vessels involved will use West Bay to anchor in, during hours of inactivity and for pre-operation preparation as well as crew transfers, and they will used their own anchors, without any mooring involved in West Bay.
According to FORCE, a notice to mariners will be issued in advance, and the forward tug master will transmit a marine safety information message ahead of the start of operations.
FORCE expects barge anchoring and cable recovery trials to resume the week of August 17-23, at locations including the Parrsboro wharf, West Bay, and the FORCE site in the Minas Passage.
The exercise is related to the underwater monitoring platform that recently began sea trials, in an effort to better understand the environmental conditions at the FORCE site.
