Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) has started preparations ahead of announced additional testing of Oceana in-river turbine.

According to ACEP, works at the its Energy Technology Facility are ramping up for the testing of the Oceana Energy’s in-river turbine as the testing of the turbine at Tanana River test site comes to a close.

A water tank is being installed to allow Oceana’s turbine to spin in its intended environment, without the fins, allowing it to stay cool while it is connected to the lab’s simulated microgrid environment.

This round of testing will allow researchers to work on the power electronics and control side for grid integration of the device as opposed to the environmental side, which was the primary focus while it was in Nenana, Alaska, it is stated in ACEP’s press release.

Oceana Energy is a US-based company focused on developing marine turbines that produce electricity from ocean tides and river currents.

ACEP is dedicated to applied energy research and testing focused on lowering the cost of energy throughout Alaska and developing economic opportunities for the state, its residents, and its industries.
