Hillary Clinton, a Democratic candidate for the President of the United States, has expressed her concern over plans to drill for oil in the Arctic.
“The Arctic is a unique treasure,” Hillary Clinton said in a tweet that came one day after Obama’s administration allowed Shell to drill into oil-bearing zones in the Chukchi Sea, offshore Alaska.
The previous permit restricted Shell from drilling into oil-bearing zones since a capping stack was not on hand and deployable within 24 hours, as required by Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).
Clinton also added: “Given what we know, it’s not worth the risk of drilling.” Clinton signed the tweet with an “H” indicating personal endorsement.
According to Politico , a political journalism organization, Clinton later confirmed that sentiment in person during an appearance in Las Vegas: “I have been to the Arctic. I have been to Barrow, [Alaska],” she said, adding: “And I think we should not risk the potential catastrophes that could come about from accidents in looking for more oil in one of the last remaining pristine regions of the world.”
Greenpeace welcomed Clinton’s stance on Arctic drilling saying she “got it right” and added her to a list of politicians who also got it right, including Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, Portland Mayor Charlie Hales, eighteen U. S. senators, former Vice President and presidential candidate Al Gore and more.

As a response to Hillary Clinton’s tweet, Jeb Bush , Governor of Florida and Republican Presidential Candidate, said: “Wrong. Being more-anti energy than Obama is extreme. We should embrace energy revolution to lower prices & create US jobs.”
