Yemen’s fourth largest port Hodeidah, located on the Red Sea, was bombed on Monday, August 17th, in Saudi-led air strikes.

Hodeidah, is controlled by the Houthi militias and allied army units loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

According to GAC, the airstrikes targeted the port’s berth no.8, gantry cranes, WFP warehouse, port control, port authority warehouse and the customs building.

Following the bombing, the Hodeidah port has been shut down and all operations have stopped.

“Currently the port of Hodeidah is under blockade by naval forces and the Air Force and all vessels are prevented from calling at the port. The Houthi troops are entering Hodeidah by tanks,” GAC informed.

The closure of the port comes in the wake of reopening of Yemen’s port of Aden that resumed normal operations after four months.
