Construcciones Navales del Norte – La Naval informed that it has recently launched the ferry Texelstroom, which is currently under construction for the Dutch company Royal N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming.
The ferry will be ready to use natural gas, which will be stored pressurized, as fuel for its electrical generation system that, at the same time feeds the electric propulsion motors, the company said in a statement.
The ferry will be used for the continuous transport of vehicles and persons between the island and Den Helder, a port in the Dutch mainland.
La Naval, in close cooperation with TESO and the engineering company C-Job developed the vessel’s design with a double ended configuration and two symmetrical engine rooms and navigation bridges.
Texelstroom will be able to transport up to 1,750 passengers and 350 vehicles and it will be able to produce energy from diesel oil or natural gas and have an electric battery plant for the supply of the additional required energy during port entrance and departure operations. It will also have more than 700 square meters of solar panels.
It is expected that the vessel will depart for sea trials at the end of this year with the final delivery expected in January 2016.
