Western Australia’s Premier and State Development Minister Colin Barnett opened the redeveloped Onslow Airport.
“ The airport is now a state-of-the-art facility with a new terminal equipped with security screening, a runway capable of landing large jets, and community access to direct flights to Perth, ” Barnett said.
The project received $30 million in funding from the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project, a liquefied natural gas project under construction 12 kilometres from Onslow, the WA’s statement reveals.
The State Government and Chevron provided an additional $13 million from the Onslow Community Development Fund to be used to complete this important airport project. The rest of the project was funded through the Shire of Ashburton.
The fund was established in 2011 through Wheatstone’s state development agreement, with $10 million through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program and $5 million from Chevron.
