Marine Power Systems, a Swansea-based developer of wave energy technology, has expanded its team by hiring Daniel Pérez Torres as a full-time design engineer.

Torres is a mechanical engineer from Queen Mary University, London, specialised in computational methods. Subsequently he completed a Master of Science degree in marine renewable energy at Plymouth University.

During his master’s degree, Torres approached Marine Power Systems to work with the company to pursue his thesis in computational modelling and physical tank testing at the Plymouth University’s Coastal, Ocean and Sediment Transport (COAST) Laboratory.

Before getting a full-time role, he completed an internship with Marine Power Systems. His internship saw him involved in further development of Marine Power System’s WaveSub device.

According to the company, Torres has relocated to Swansea to continue his work, focusing on the continued development of the quarter scale prototype of the WaveSub.

Dr. Gareth Stockman , co-founder and managing director of Marine Power Systems, said: “We are naturally very pleased to expand our team further and offer Daniel a full time role as a design engineer at Marine Power Systems. From pursuing an internship with us, he proved himself to be a bright individual, who was already very familiar with modelling and prototype testing of the unique WaveSub device.

“We are looking forward to his future with us and seeing him develop and contribute to the company’s success as we continue to progress in this area of renewable energy.”
