Marine Energy Research Innovation and Knowledge Accelerator (MERIKA) is recruiting a research associate to support its wave energy resource characterization and modelling activities in Outer Hebrides, off Scotland.

The vacancy is based at the University of the Highlands and Islands, Lews Castle College, in Stornoway and the post is initially funded until March 31, 2017.

The job role entails providing support in the design, installation and commissioning of aspects of a data acquisition network including X-band radar, RTK beach survey equipment, acoustic sensors and wave buoys and to the processing and utilization of field data in numerical modelling studies, according to MERIKA.

Lews Castle College UHI is currently engaged in a number of marine energy research activities focused on wave and met ocean data acquisition and high resolution modelling of the wave resource of the Outer Hebrides.

According to MERIKA, the activities will be initially focused around an area to the Atlantic and northern coastlines of Scotland and adjacent waters, but results are expected to be of a generic nature and thus wider applicable.

The deadline for the application is set for September 7, 2015, with the expected start date October 1, 2015.

MERIKA is an initiative by University of the Highlands and the Islands (UHI) that revolves around the concept of turning the UHI Faculty of Science, Health and Engineering into a reference research and innovation hub for Europe on the theme of marine energy.
