Sakhalin Energy, the operator of Russia’s first LNG plant, said it has offloaded the 1000th standard cargo of liquefied natural gas, produced since the start of the facility in 2009.

The vessel left Prigorodnoye port on 25 August, Sakhalin Energy informed in a statement.

The milestone cargo will be delivered to Japan, the volume will be split between two buyers Tokyo Electric and Tokyo Gas.

The two companies were also the buyers of the first LNG cargo in March 2009. The volume of a standard cargo is 145,000 cubic meters of LNG.

The Asia-Pacific region is the major consumer of Sakhalin LNG. From 2009 about 72 percent of Sakhalin LNG was delivered to Japan and 22 percent to South Korea. Among other buyers were China, Taiwan, India, Kuwait and Thailand.

Sakhalin-2 LNG plant was launched in February 2009, and in 2010 reached its full design output of 9.6 million tonnes of the chilled gas per year. Further continuous improvements allowed for more than 10% increase in production.

Sakhalin Energy contributes over 4% of global LNG supplies. Since the beginning of production Sakhalin Energy has now offloaded 65 million tonnes of LNG.
