“Fukushima Shimpuu”, the largest floating offshore wind turbine in the world, left Onahama port on July 28th and arrived at the testing area the next morning.

“Fukushima Shimpuu” has a 7MW output capacity, which is 3.5 times the capacity of the 2MW “Fukushima Mirai”, which started operation in the first phase.

The height from the sea surface to the rotor center is 105 meters. The wind turbine reaches 188.5 meter at the highest.

In order to tow such a huge structure from Onahama port to the testing area, three tugboats were pulling the floating turbine from the front and maintaining balance with the assistance of two rear tugboats. They were accompanied with two patrol boats.

The floating wind turbine is connected to the chains and anchors, and marine cables will be laid and buried by the end of this month, to connect the turbine to the substation “Fukushima Kizuna”, which was constructed in the first phase.
