The United States Department of Energy issued an order granting Port Arthur LNG a long-term, multi-contract authorization to export liquefied natural gas.
Port Arthur, a unit of Sempra Energy, requested to export 10 mtpa of LNG from the proposed project to countries with which the United States have a free trade agreement for a period of 25 years, according to DOE’s order.
The company proposes to construct, own and operate a liquefaction project in Port Arthur, Texas. The facility would consist of two liquefaction trains each capable of producing 5 mtpa of LNG, two 160,000 cbm storage tanks, feed gas pre treatment facilities and accompanying marine facilities.
Construction is expected to begin in 2017 with commercial operations expected to begin 2021 if all permits, approvals and conditions have been satisfied.
