NEC Corporation signed a contract with Telekom Malaysia Berhad and TT dotCom Sdn Bhd to construct the Sistem Kabel Rakyat 1 Malaysia (SKR1M), an optical submarine cable system that will connect Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
SKR1M, a 100 Gb/s optical fiber submarine cable system measuring approximately 3,700 kilometers in length, will connect Cherating, Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Bintulu, Kuching and Mersing.
Following SKR1M’s anticipated completion in mid-2017, it is expected to enhance connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, the company noted.
“NEC is honored to be selected by TM and TTdC as the supplier of the SKR1M submarine cable system. Dating back to 1980, NEC supplied Malaysia with its first domestic coaxial submarine cable system. Since then, NEC has continuously supplied its latest submarine cable systems for 35 years. Today, we pride ourselves on adding the SKR1M to our long list of contributions to the region,” said Naoki Yoshida , General Manager, Submarine Network Division, NEC Corporation.
