ORE Catapult, CENSIS team up for new tidal sensors
A new type of sensor could soon be installed on the blades of subsea tidal turbines to monitor the interaction between marine life and renewable energy installations. A collaborative project involving the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult and CENSIS will aim to improve the monitoring of activity around subsea tidal installations and provide a warning when there is a risk of a collision with a tidal device.
Bibby HydroMap finalizes Holyhead Deep Green survey op
Bibby HydroMap has completed survey operations on Deep Green tidal energy project off Holyhead on behalf of developer Minesto. The objective of the survey was to provide a detailed understanding of the seabed levels, characteristics and shallow geology of the proposed development area, as well as to conduct an environmental baseline study.
Bombora Wave deploys scaled wave energy device
Bombora Wave Power, a Perth-based wave energy developer, has deployed a scaled prototype of their wave energy device at Swan River, off Melville, Australia. This represents a step forward from laboratory testing, and during the trial Bombora will test a number of system configurations to optimise the key design and control system features before launching into full-scale commercial scale trials.
Carnegie targets Seychelles
Carnegie Wave Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Seychelles to investigate wave and microgrid opportunities in the country. The agreement focuses on identifying the opportunities and development pathways for commercial wave energy plants on the Seychelles as well as potential microgrid opportunities that would enable CETO wave farms to be integrated into the existing power infrastructure.
