China’s Ministry of Transport revealed a plan to cut SOx emissions from vessels in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta, and Bohai Sea by 65% by 2020.
According to ministry’s plan, adopting liquefied natural gas as fuel for ships in the named waterways will be high on the priority list, together with LNG fueling infrastructure.
China intends to improve its regulations to prevent ship and port pollution, reduce emissions and promote the use of clean energy.
The plan reveals that particles emissions in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Sea are to be cut by 20% and 30% respectively.
All vessels are planned to use shore power while berthing, while liquefied natural gas will also be used as fuel for power generation.
According to the information by Ministry of Environmental Protection, S02 emissions from vessels were at 8.4% while NOx emissions were up at 11.3% of China’s total emissions.
