Lithuania is interested in importing liquefied natural gas from Israel, Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said.
Butkevičius is currently visiting Israel where he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss energy cooperation, including LNG imports, the Lithuanian government said in a statement.
Israel has recently discovered large quantities of natural gas, and plans to start its production in 2016, but it is still unclear how the gas will be exported, the statement said.
Lithuania started importing LNG last year via the FSRU Independence, located in the Port of Klaipeda, in order to reduce the country’s dependence on Russian gas supplies.
