Greatship Manisha vessel is carrying out drilling operations at RWE’s Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm.

The activity, including borehole work as part of the geotechnical survey at one of the foundations, will last until the next Tuesday.

“During the course of drilling operations the Greatship Manisha will be connected to the seabed by a drillpipe and will be unable to manoeuvre,” wrote the company in a notice to mariners.

According to the RWE spokesperson, the operations are “ part of the engineering compliance and checking process.”

Furthermore, another vessel, Channel Chieftain VII, is on the job at the site.

Following a completion of a diving works, comprising routine inspections required under the manufacturer’s operation and maintenance manuals, the vessel was deployed for survey work.

Both operations are used to gather survey data for environmental consent reporting.

Comprising 160 Siemens 3.6MW turbines, Gwynt y Môr construction phase ended in November 2014 and the wind farm was fully inaugurated on 18 June this year.

Project owners include RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München, Siemens and UK Green Investment Bank.
