The largest infrastructure project since the waterway’s original construction, the Panama Canal Expansion Program, will soon become a reality.

With the project 93% completed, the Panama Canal Expansion has reached its final stretch.

The filling of the new locks began recently, marking the start of a planned and methodical phase of operational testing of the Locks, including its culvert valves, maintenance bulkheads and gates.

Last month, while testing of the new locks continued, the three dams adjacent to the Pacific-facing Cocoli Locks were completed.

Also, works are progressing on the removal of the strip of land separating the new Cocolí Locks from the Pacific Ocean and Agua Clara locks from the Atlantic.

The Panama Canal Authority has just released this beautiful photo of a dredger during her work at the Agua Clara Locks on the Atlantic side.
