Petronas-led Pacific NorthWest LNG project in Canada said it has started investigative work to obtain additional information for the project’s design.

The work includes collecting borehole samples on Lelu Island, near shore and in the marine environment in the area where marine infrastructure is proposed to be located, including the material offloading facility and the bridge from Skeena Drive to Lelu Island, PNW LNG said in a statement.

“ This work builds on the investigative work project completed in 2013. This is not the start of construction ,” it added.

A vessel with borehole sampling equipment will conduct the work in the marine environment and near shore. The investigative work is expected to run from September through December.

PNW LNG is planning to build an $11 billion LNG export facility on Lelu Island in the District of Port Edward, British Columbia.

The proposed facility will comprise an initial development of two LNG trains of approximately 6 million tonnes per annum each, and a subsequent development of a third train of approximately 6 mtpa.

Petronas, Sinopec, JAPEX, Indian Oil Corporation and PetroleumBRUNEI are all shareholders in Pacific NorthWest LNG and the associated natural gas supply.
