The Crown Estate to kick off new wave & tidal leasing
The Crown Estate has announced a new programme of leasing for small scale wave and tidal current test and demonstration projects under 3 MW. It has been designed with greater flexibility so that developers can make an application when they are ready, rather than in a specific timeframe.
Scottish Gov to take over Crown Estate’s management functions in Scotland
The Crown Estate’s management functions in Scotland will be transferred to the Scottish Government. A distinct Scottish operating division has been put in place with its own business plan, management information and financial reporting.
EMEC, FloWave replicate Scotland’s seas in a lab
EMEC and FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility have kicked off an ambitious programme to use real-life ocean data from EMEC to replicate Orkney’s seas in the FloWave tank. EMEC is providing data gathered over years to FloWave which is using it to develop accurate models to replicate the complex sea states encountered in Orkney as closely as possible.
TiPTORs project sets out improved tidal turbine methodology
The first phase of the Tidal Turbine Powertrain Reliability Project (TiPTORs), led by the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, has delivered a ‘Design for Reliability’ methodology which provides a robust and systematic approach to developing tidal turbine drivetrains. The methodology allows designers to understand and control the factors influencing product reliability and hence operational performance.
