Aker Philadelphia Shipyard held a keel laying ceremony for the fourth of four LNG-ready product tankers that it is building with Crowley Maritime Corporation.

The 50,000 dwt product tankers, which are based on a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards design, will be constructed with consideration for the use of LNG for propulsion in the future, the company said in a statement.

Keeping with long held shipbuilding tradition, coins were placed on one of the keel blocks before the unit was lowered into place in the drydock.

Representatives from APSI and Crowley were in attendance to place the coins and sign the keel block as a gesture of good fortune and safe travels, it added.
