The Metlakatla First Nation revealed it will continue to work on addressing environmental concerns regarding the Pacific NorthWest LNG project on Lelu Island and the Skeena river estuary.
The First Nation that has, through its Metlakatla Stewardship Office participated in the review processes of the PNW LNG project, said in a statement that its concerns regarding the environmental impact of the project have not been resolved.
However, the First Nation acknowledges a constructive relationship and that design modifications have been incorporated as a result of ongoing discussions.
In July 2015, Metlakatla joined with four other Tsimshian Nations to form the Tsimshian Environmental Stewardship Authority, with the goal of working together and speaking with a stronger voice on regional environmental issues.
The Metlakatla First Nation said it will continue to participate in the CEAA process and will ultimately decide whether or not to support this project.
