Dutch subsea cable logistics specialist WIND has been nominated by The Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KNVR) for the dutch Shipping Award 2015.

WIND received the nomination for its pioneering role in the development of recovery of long distance, out-of-service subsea cable systems.

The concept, developed by WIND in 2009, consists of converting cargo vessels into recovery vessels and includes development of special cable recovery equipment, development of cable recovery procedures and training of crews.

Since inception WIND has succesfully recovered some 15,000 km of cable and continues to add more every day.

“The development and succesful implementation of this concept have led to an industry-wide breakthrough as cable recovery was previously economically unviable. This concept has changed that and WIND is happy to see that using cargo vessels for this type of work is becoming the industry standard,” the company said in a press release.
