HydroQuest, a French-based hydrokinetic turbines developer, has connected its river tidal turbine to the French electricity grid.
HydroQuest’s river tidal 1.40 turbine has been deployed in the Loire river, Orleans, since the late 2014.
After 10 months of operation in real conditions and measurements of electricity production for evaluating the machine performance in a natural environment, the turbine was connected to the French electricity grid. The electricity produced by the turbine is expected to power up to 60 homes.
Jean-François Simon , President of HydroQuest, said: “France must now position itself as an international model in the marine and river energy sectors, particularly through the establishment of demonstration farms that will demonstrate to customers around the world the capabilities of the tidal energy sector.”
HydroQuest’s turbines use crossflow double vertical axis technology, and their implementation and maintenance is facilitated through the fixing to a floating barge anchored by underwater cables and liftable turbine columns.
HydroQuest is a French-based company established in 2010 that has developed a range of turbines able to generate electricity from river currents, estuaries and oceans.
