Cape Sharp Tidal, a joint venture between Emera and OpenHydro, is taking final steps towards the deployment of two 2 MW tidal turbines in the Bay of Fundy, Canada.
Cape Sharp Tidal plans to install and grid-connect a 4 MW tidal array at FORCE site, off Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.
During one of the four open house meetings held in Halifax on September 28, Cape Sharp Tidal offered an update on the project’s current status.
“At this stage, we are finalizing the manufacturing. We’ll be assembling the turbine components in the next few days. Definitely between November and December, by the end of this year, we will have a turbine under water, on seabed, generating electricity,” Jeremy Poste , Cape Sharp Tidal Project Manager, was quoted as saying by CBC News.
The electricity produced from the turbines is expected to power an estimated 1,000 homes in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The installation of the second turbine is expected to take place early in 2016, CBC News reports .
Note: The original title ‘Cape Sharp tidal targets November deployment’ has been amended to ‘Cape Sharp Tidal turbine to start spinning by end of 2015’ at the request of Cape Sharp Tidal’s spokesperson, who deemed it inaccurate, saying that the deployment could be expected by the end of the year and not in November.
