Nine tribes of the Lax Kw’alaams held a first meeting in thirty-five years with the purpose to commemorate the signing of an exclusivity and benefits agreement with the First Nations led company Eagle Spirit Energy.
The preliminary Eagle Spirit Energy proposal is for the building of a pipeline that would ship upgraded oil to Grassy Point. All First Nations partners along the route will have initial and ongoing input into the project through the innovative inclusion of the first-ever Chiefs Council, a joint statement by the Lax Kw’alaams tribes reads.
Eagle Energy Spirit intends to develop a multibillion-dollar energy pipeline corridor through their traditional territories. An energy corridor means that pipelines will be built to transport liquefied natural gas and later on oil, to a proposed tanker loading export facility located on tidewater in northern B.C.
