A prior information notice aimed at testing the market for the potential tidal energy generation scheme at Churchill Barriers has been issued on the Public Contracts Scotland website.

The purpose of this notice is to test the market in order to establish if there is any developer interest in a concession for the design, construction, operation and financing of a tidal energy generation scheme at Churchill Barriers .

According to the notice , the idealised mean power with both barriers fully open is estimated at 16.7 MW at the first barrier, and 8.6 MW at the second barrier.

The scheme must allow for maintaining of the road transport link across the barriers at all times and reducing the existing wave overtopping risk at the second batter, the notice states.
