British oil company BP has informed that the Glen Lyon FPSO has been named in South Korea, at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan.
The company revealed the information in a video on its Youtube channel, without providing the exact date of the naming ceremony. The video itself is dated September 30.
The new FPSO vessel measures 270 metres long by 52 metres wide. It replaces the Schiehallion FPSO, which started production in 1998 and was removed in 2014 to make way for Quad204 subsea works in the UK sector of the North Sea.
The new unit is expected to be installed at the Quad 204 project, 175 km west of Shetland in 2016.
The Quad 204 development aims to unearth the remaining estimated 450 million barrels of oil still available and help extend production from the fields out to 2035 and beyond. The Glen Lyon FPSO has a storage capacity of 900,000 barrels of oil. It is expected to process 130 thousand barrels of oil and 220 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
