The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for Venture Global’s planned Plaquemines LNG project in Louisiana.
With the notice, FERC opens the scoping process it will use to gather input from the public and interested agencies on the project. The comments are to be sent before November 4, 2015, the commission said in its filing.
Venture Global LNG plans to construct and operate natural gas liquefaction and export facilities at a planned liquefied natural gas terminal on the west bank of the Mississippi River and construct and operate associated lateral pipelines in Plaquemines and Jefferson parishes that would connect the terminal to the existing interstate U.S. natural gas grid.
The project would be constructed in two phases, with phase one to have a production capacity of 10 million metric tons of LNG per year, with additional 10 mtpa of LNG to be added in phase two that would be constructed at a later date, depending on market demand.
The facilities would include four 200,000 cbm LNG aboveground storage tanks, three marine loading berths capable of receiving ocean-going LNG carriers of between 120,000 cbm and 210,000 cbm capacity and one temporary floating LNG storage vessel.
